Milan Ivanič is from former Czechoslovakia. He studied at the Hollar School of Art and the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague before coming to this country in 1970. He then lived and worked as a figurative artist in Devon, Sussex, London, and Stockton, California, before settling in the North West of England in 1986. His work derives from close engagement with the landscape and culture of the British Isles, while retaining an accent of central Europe . Ivanič’s work is concerned with energies on intersecting timescales. He sees his work as making ‘fields of marks’ which not only represent, but also materially embody the meanings, tensions and emotions he associates with his subjects, depicting volume by line rather than by shading .
He has had one-man exhibitions at Keele University, Wolfson College, Oxford, The Clyde Bertrand Gallery, Stockton, California, Aston University Arts Centre, The Terrace Gallery, Worthing, and The BBC, Manchester. His work has been included in numerous exhibitions, and is in private collections in the UK, the US, Canada, Norway, the Czech Republic and Slovakia .
